Yellow engine paint
Can anyone tell me where I can get some brush on Yellow engine paint? After an accident I have got my Gold Mayfair back to a lovely condition, but the engine bay lets it down, it has a bright yellow block but half the paint's come off. I need to paint it in situ so brush on would be easier. I love the yellow colour!

Loads of places sell engine lacquer - try your local car spares shop or failing that search on the internet.

Engine Paint Colour
Hello
I am starting a restoration project on a mini racing green/ finishing one someone else has already done the body work for.
The previous owner sprayed (badly) the engine red. I am lead to believe that was the colour for the 1325cc engine whereas mine is a 998cc engine. I am trying to restore the car to factory new so would like to have the engine the correct colour but i cant seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone here know what colour it should be? Even if it should be red im repainting it because it looks like he sprayed it without cleaning it first as theres tones of muck and oil under the paint.
Thanks
Matt

Around that period the 998 block was painted a beige/yellow colour for a while - not to be confused with the gold seal exchange lumps offered by BL/Rover. The head was satin black. (at least that's what it was on my on Mini30 which I bought at 18months old)
I've had a look at the 30th birthday bash souvenir guide and can only see the mini racing based cooper1.0 conversion. The engine shot has the beige/gold block but with a gloss blue head (similar to tahiti blue body) - presumably to make the copper items stand out.
Try to track down some images on google of the sales brochures from that time to see what it shows as I can't confirm 100%.

RE: Engine Paint Colour
Ok, thanks
Ive tried looking for pictures and sales brochures but they all show the cooper conversion in the engine shots. Guess there isnt anything special about a standard engine
Ill keep looking though, someone somewhere must know for sure

engine painting
i am wanting to paint my cylinder head and block, obviosly i will degresese the engine and clean it before painting , is it best to prime it first then paint and then laquor? but if so what paint do i use, some people have told me hammerite will just flake off from heating and cooling? any ideas many thanks

I painted my block and cylinder head about 15 years ago.
Degrease thoroughly, then clean down to bare metal with a wire brush in an electric drill, then two or three coats of engine laquer (I think it's made by the same people who make Hammerite). No primer.
It's started to flake in a few places, but still looks pretty good.

Mini Projects
Hmmm! I thought it would be nice to get the paintwork touched up on my mk1..... By the time I took it to the garage for a quote Id already made up my mind that that it would be in for a full exterior strip and respray. Then I figured it would be a good idea to replace any dodgy panels.......... And some touching up on the inside..........and what about underneath? Gotta do that........... Oh yeah, and painting the engine bay would be a good idea........... Wait a minute!!!! If Im going to have the engine taken out to paint the engine bay, why dont I replace it with a tuned 1340, especially as my mechanic has one lying around..... And Ill have the block chemically cleaned and repainted too.........And whats the point in getting a nice paint job if all the shiny bits are no longer shiny? - better replace them. And I forgot to mention the minilites....... Ring any bells?

Best treatment for SU Heatshield?
I would of thought tha powder coating would be OK, but I would probably use high temp paint like you use for brake calipers or the engine block - available in hellfords.

On all the Mk 1's the engine, gearbox and clutch, and the water pump was fully assembled, then the entire assembly was painted.
So put simply, all early Mk1 engine assemblies (850, 997, 1070, 970, 998, 1275, and 1000) all had the gearbox, clutch housing, and water pump painted the same color as the engine.
If memory serves me correctly, the Mk2 only had the engine assembly painted, and not the gearbox and clutch housing which was left in bare aluminium.
Regards, Peter
